U.S Troops To Be Used In Libya?

By, WeThePeople

Source: CBSNews.com

Article Date: April 7, 2011

Let us take a look at the CBS article,

The United States may consider sending troops into Libya with a possible international ground force that could aid the rebels, according to the general who led the military mission until NATO took over.

Army General Carter Ham told Congress today that while sending a globalist ground invasion force including American troops into Libya may not be “ideal,” it is probably the only way to make sure the CIA organized rebels defeat Gaddafi and his troops.

I find this bit of news interesting because Mr. Obama told the American Press that the U.S Military will not send ground troops into Libya but the same time the administration has not ruled out the idea. This to me is a clear sign of a ‘possible’ U.S. led invasion.

I wonder how the rest of the world will look at the country if we deploy ground troops in a country that is currently under revolution. Time will tell I’m sure.

French Forces Join Assault In Ivory Coast.

By, WeThePeople

Source: MSNBC.MSN.com

Article Date: April 4, 2011

I quote a statement from the article,

ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast — U.N. and French helicopters attacked Laurent Gbagbo’s last strongholds in Abidjan on Monday as forces loyal to Ivory Coast presidential claimant Alassane Ouattara streamed into the city in a “final assault.”

A quick re-cap on whats been happening in the Ivory Coast since March 1,

Gbagbo’s supporters carried out a number of attacks during March, attacking foreign businesses and UN offices in Abidjan on 1 March and killing at least six people attending a pro-Ouattara rally in the city. The northern suburb of Abobo was attacked by Gbagbo’s forces on 13 March in a bid to drive out pro-Ouattara supporters, and mobs were also reported to be roaming the city looking for their opponents and attacking or killing them. The violence resulted in 10 confirmed deaths and scores more wounded. Abobo came under heavy attack on 17 March, killing 30 people, when shells were into a crowded market from a nearby military barracks. It was unclear whether Gbagbo or Outtara supporters were responsible, though Abobo is generally pro-Ouattara. On 18 March, the UN issued a statement saying that the shelling was “an act, perpetrated against civilians, [that] could constitute a crime against humanity.” Another 52 people were killed in continuing violence in Abidjan between 21-26 March.

So with one side on its final assault the other has remained on the defensive. The United Nations has decided to join Quattara with chopper strikes against Gbagbo forces. Apparently the U.N has been in the Ivory Coast for a while only assisting in aid missions this I didn’t know.

United States President Barack Obama on March 27 released a statement telling Gbagbo to step down and hand over power to Quattara. Gbagbo has remained in power. I’m sure within a couple of days we will see what comes of this.

U.S. Professor Becomes Libyan Opposition Finance Chief.

By, WeThePeople

Source: CNN.com

Article Date: April 1, 2011

I will quote the article as stating,

In just a few hectic weeks, Ali A. Tarhouni has gone from being a senior lecturer at the University of Washington to managing the complicated world of finance and oil for the Libyan opposition’s new government.

The whirlwind journey has him working oil deals, loans, credits and other ways to fund the rebels and finance the government.

So when asked Thursday night by CNN’s Eliot Spitzer whether it has seemed all too surreal, Tarhouni said, “The hectic schedule that I keep so far is preventing me from thinking about it. … And then I realize that I don’t really want to think about it.”

Tarhouni, 60, returned in early March to his native Libya after more than 35 years in exile. He is the fledgling National Transitional Council’s finance and oil minister.

Tarhouni told CNN that the National Transition Council plans to use oil sales to finance the rebels and to form a broader government.

Well this would confirm their agenda to sell oil in order to fund their cause and to form a broader government. Like I stated in a previous article hopefully the rebels will stay true to their cause.

U.S. & Libya Combat Operations.

By, WeThePeople

Source: Foxnews.com

Article Date: April 1, 2011

I will quote the article as,

WASHINGTON — The Pentagon is about to pull its attack planes out of the international air campaign in Libya, hoping NATO partners can take up the slack.

What does this mean exactly? The United States has decided that it’s role in Libya must end. I would say it is due to the unpopularity of the whole Libyan situation. I also find it interesting how the article states that NATO will continue the operations.

So far the United States has invested over $750 million tax payer money to fund the U.S. operations in Libya..

I also find it interesting how Mr. Obama confirmed reports about the CIA having a role in Libya. The article does not mention anything about the end of the CIA’s role but only states the cease of the U.S. military operations.

While NATO keeps the hammer on the Libyan Government the United States has chosen a more covert role. Most likely arming and training the rebel forces with the help of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency like they did during the 1979 soviet war in Afghanistan.

Libya: Boots on the Ground

By, WeThePeople

Source: NyTimes.com

Article Date: March 30, 2011

American President Barack Obama announced Wednesday that for weeks now the United States Central Intelligence Agency [CIA] has been helping the Libyan rebels.

Just a day ago Obama stated that there would be no need for “boots on the ground”. Well Obama the boots touched ground a week ago.

While President Obama has insisted that no American military ground troops participate in the Libyan campaign, small groups of C.I.A. operatives have been working in Libya for several weeks as part of a shadow force of Westerners that the Obama administration hopes can help bleed Colonel Qaddafi’s military, the officials said.

If NATO has taken over responsibility in Libya then why the need for “our” troops? Good o’l CIA, doing their best to “help under the funds of the good o’l tax payer.

Libyan Rebels Form Central Bank

By, WeThePeople

Source: CNBC.com

Article Date: March 28, 2011

Rebels in Benghazi on Monday announced that their party, the Transitional National Council, had formed their own central bank.

The article states,

The rebel group known as the Transitional National Council released a statement last week announcing that they have designated the Central Bank of Benghazi as a monetary authority competent in monetary policies in Libya, and that they have appointed a governor to the Central Bank of Libya, with a temporary headquarters in Benghazi, according to Bloomberg.

Since the “no fly zone”, the Libyan rebels are gaining ground by the day. The rebels already plan on exporting their oil to the United States and Europe soon and now we have a newly formed central bank.

Normally this would be praised as good news for these brave people however it doesn’t take much to notice a connection between our military aid to the rebels and them opening up oil exports and creating a central bank to put store their profit.

Libyan Rebels + United States/NATO Help = Succesful Revolution & $$$

United States Military Intervention + Libyan Rebel Cause = Oil

We must also acknowledge the fact that these rebels will be gaining a lot of wealth pretty early in their revolution due to their ambitious goal to export oil while still trying to take their country from pro-Gaddafi forces.

I can’t help but think about how the Central Intelligence Agency [CIA] funded the insurgency [Mujahideen/Al-Qaeda] during the 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

Hopefully these rebels stay true to their goal and the power, wealth, and weapons fall into the right hands. Only time will tell and until then we must hope for the best.

Syrian Government Resigns.

Syrian Revolution

By, WeThePeople

Source: NYTimes.com

Article Date: March 29th, 2011

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has accepted his governments resignation Tuesday after a move to quell recent mass protest within the country.

The new yet to be formed government is planned to be operational Wednesday as well as the lifting of a controversial 50-year-old State of Emergency.

Abdullah al-Dardari, who served as vice-prime minister for economy during the now resigned government has been selected to chair the new government.

In response to the recent threat of a new revolution in Syria it would seem that the people has prevailed. Hopefully this transition of power will fall in the right hands. All we can do now is hope for the best for the Syrian people.

Strategic Advance

By, WeThePeople

Source: MSNBC.com

NEWYORK – Oil prices slided to about $104 a barrel Monday as Libyan rebels captured key ports in the country.

Benchmark crude had jumped 24 percent since mid February as fighting in Libya squeezed off oil shipments that previously supplied nearly 2 percent of the world’s oil.

The United States officially responded to the Libyan crisis by stating that the United States had no interest in Libya other than helping the rebels with their mission.

It can’t be a coincidence that since the United Nations led coalition airstrikes began in early March barrels have started to make their way to norm. Least we hope.

I would have to say that politics did indeed have a role in the events which lead up to the NATO intervention in Libya and a strategic one indeed. I’m sure we will see further developments within a couple of days.
