I will quote the article as,

WASHINGTON — The Pentagon is about to pull its attack planes out of the international air campaign in Libya, hoping NATO partners can take up the slack.

What does this mean exactly? The United States has decided that it’s role in Libya must end. I would say it is due to the unpopularity of the whole Libyan situation. I also find it interesting how the article states that NATO will continue the operations.

So far the United States has invested over $750 million tax payer money to fund the U.S. operations in Libya..

I also find it interesting how Mr. Obama confirmed reports about the CIA having a role in Libya. The article does not mention anything about the end of the CIA’s role but only states the cease of the U.S. military operations.

While NATO keeps the hammer on the Libyan Government the United States has chosen a more covert role. Most likely arming and training the rebel forces with the help of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency like they did during the 1979 soviet war in Afghanistan.
